Eminem's new single Berzerk is half-rock, half-rap, all old-school hip-hop and completely glorious.
After a long hiatus, the rapper offers up another taste of his upcoming album Marshall Mathers LP 2, employing the talents of Rick Rubin to produce his music. There's some Beastie Boys' Fight for Your Right (to Party), and a little of Billy Squier's 1981 hitThe Stroke. Even the the lyric video harkens back to the rap of yore with a boombox and a cassette tape. Another song, Survival, was used in the Call of Duty: Ghosts video game.
He lobs a few ouchie balls at tabloid figures including Kevin Federline, the Kardashians (of course) and Lamar Odom. He pays homage to colleagues Kendrick Lamar, Birdman, MC Ren and Public Enemy.
He announced the new album and release date Sunday night during two commercials that aired on the MTV Video Music Awards. The album will be released Nov. 5.
There were a few f-bombs in the song, but here's the family-friendly bridge.
"Take your shoes off, let your hair down and go berzerk all night long/Grow your beard out, just weird out and go berzerk all night long."
