DETROIT, MI - Eminem is involved in a tweet battle royale with other worldwide superstar musicians that's part of MTV United Kingdom's "Hottest Summer Superstar" contest.
An excerpt from the MTV UK website that explains the contest:
"MTV's panel of music experts have hand picked 50 of this summer's "hottest" music artists. From the shortlist below simply tweet #MTVHottest followed by the name of the artist you want to vote for and see them battle it out in our live leaderboard!Voting is based on hashtag tweet volume and closes August 18. The winner will be revealed August 31 on MTV Music."
As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Eminem ranked No. 9 in fan tweets behind Katy Perry, The Wanted, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato, Lady Gagy, Justin Bieber and leader One Direction.
For comparison's sake, Eminem, at that time, generated 1,125,410 tweets from fans compared to One Direction's 15,999,098.
Eminem is the only artist on the list of 50 that has Detroit or Michigan ties on the MTV UK "live" leaderboard.
News of Slim Shady being a part of this contest comes a few weeks before he prepares to leave the U.S. for a European tour. It's unclear if Eminem will do any U.S shows in 2013.
Eminem's European tour dates confirmed and posted on his website:
Aug. 15 - Pukkelpop Festival in Hasselt, Belgium
Aug. 17 - Slane Castle in Slane, Ireland
Aug. 20 - Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, United Kingdom
Aug. 22 - State De France in St. Denis, France
Aug. 24 - Reading Festival in Reading, United Kingdom
Aug. 25 - Leeds Festival in Leeds United Kingdom
Eminem's Detroit-based hype man Mr. Porter confirmed on Twitter he will be with his boss overseas for the tour and dropped hints about Eminem's new album.
